This project is part of Zero Carbon Charge's ambitious plan, which aims to establish 120 solar-powered charging stations along South Africa's major highways over the next year. MagicPower, in collaboration with Greencore Energy Solutions and Sinexcel, provided customized energy storage solutions for this innovative project, showcasing our ability to deliver diverse, sustainable energy technologies tailored to specific project needs.
The Conflict Between South Africa's Power Grid and Green Mobility
According to research by Zero Carbon Charge, South Africa's electricity supply still heavily relies on coal-fired power generation. As a result, charging electric vehicles using the traditional power grid indirectly emits up to 5.8 tons of CO2 annually, which is even higher than the 4.4 tons of CO2 emissions from traditional gasoline vehicles. This paradox highlights the growing urgency and necessity of promoting off-grid charging stations powered by renewable energy sources.
Gaia Series: Core Technology Driving the Off-Grid EV Charging Station
This project utilizes MagicPower's Gaia energy storage system, which features a containerized modular design for easy installation and commissioning, enabling quick adaptation to diverse customer needs.
The system has been upgraded to an off-grid solution, equipped with a 250 kW scalable PCS, a 558 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and a split-type charging system with a maximum output of 480 kW. The charging system includes one main unit and three charging terminals, offering a total of six charging guns, four of which are liquid-cooled. With just 10 minutes of charging, users can enjoy a driving range of 400 kilometers, providing a highly convenient and flexible charging experience.
This series of customized designs ensures that the Gaia energy storage system operates reliably and efficiently, even in areas with weak or no grid coverage, delivering stable energy support to users.
